"Summer Challenge: Preparing for the Olympic Triathlon"

Welcome to the training plan for the Summer Olympic Triathlon. Over 8 weeks, you will prepare to face this exciting swimming, cycling, and running challenge. Through progressive and energetic workouts, we will help you achieve your goals and improve your performance. Listen to your body and enjoy the journey to success in this exciting endeavor. Note: This plan is designed for individuals with a basic or intermediate fitness level who aim to complete an Olympic distance triathlon (1.5 km swim, 40 km bike, and 10 km run).

Week 1:

  • Monday: Active recovery (stretching or gentle yoga).
  • Tuesday: 30 minutes of easy running.
  • Wednesday: 45 minutes of swimming (technique work).
  • Thursday: 45 minutes of cycling at a comfortable pace.
  • Friday: 30 minutes of easy running.
  • Saturday: 1 hour of cycling at a moderate pace.
  • Sunday: Rest.

Week 2:

  • Increase swim duration to 1 hour, focusing on technique and endurance.
  • Increase bike duration to 1.5 hours, incorporating some gentle climbs.
  • Continue with two running sessions, one short and one longer.
  • Active recovery or stretching on Sunday.

Week 3:

  • Incorporate "brick" workouts: 30 minutes of cycling immediately followed by 15 minutes of running.
  • Perform a more intense swim session, including short sets with active rest in between.
  • Increase bike duration to 2 hours.
  • Continue with two running sessions, one short and one longer.
  • Active recovery or stretching on Sunday.

Week 4:

  • Perform a full triathlon workout in one day (50-60% of the target event distance) to practice transitions.
  • Increase swim duration to 1.5 hours.
  • Increase bike duration to 2.5 hours, including some challenging climbs.
  • Continue with two running sessions, one short and one longer.
  • Active recovery or stretching on Sunday.

Week 5:

  • Perform a full triathlon workout in one day (70-80% of the target event distance).
  • Maintain swim duration at 1.5 hours.
  • Increase bike duration to 3 hours, including intensity work.
  • Continue with two running sessions, one short and one longer.
  • Active recovery or stretching on Sunday.

Week 6:

  • Perform a full triathlon workout in one day (90-100% of the target event distance).
  • Reduce workout intensity to allow for a recovery week.
  • Maintain swim duration at 1.5 hours.
  • Reduce bike duration to 2 hours.
  • Reduce the long run distance to 8 km.
  • Active recovery or stretching on Sunday.

Week 7:

  • Perform a simulation of the target event (100% of the triathlon distance).
  • Decrease workout intensity during the week to arrive fresh for the simulation day.
  • Maintain swim duration at 1 hour.
  • Reduce bike duration to 1.5 hours.
  • Perform an easy 5 km run after completing the simulation.
  • Active recovery or stretching on Sunday.

Week 8:

  • Reduce training intensity and volume to allow for a recovery week before the target event.
  • Do a final easy swim session to maintain technique.
  • Do a final short bike session to keep your legs active.
  • Rest for the last 2-3 days before the event.
